Following this there were 2 more rounds, against 150 participants from around India. I was able
to qualify for this round by solving problem 4 and 9, “Coloured line” and “Oscillating Screw”.
During the selection process and the ‘fights’, I interacted with many like-minded students from
other cities and made some good friends along the way. I also build upon my debating skills,
putting my point across in a non-aggressive manner, being patient, and of course perseverance!
In the process of preparation for this competition, I most appreciated the ability to brainstorm
with others to reach a common goal. We, in the Indian team collaborated on every problem we
had solved individually. It helped improve and strengthened our presentations, hugely. As was
evident, in our presentations during the final round.
During the process of data collection for the “Oscillating Screw”, I had run into many delays, as
the data collected was unreliable because it did not conform with the motion observed. This was
a huge setback for me, as I had already spent much of my precious time doing it, to no vail! I
continued relentlessly as I did not want to abandon the project, having done considerable work
on it by then. After much deliberation and research, on my own , during my vacations, it finally
fell into place!!
This was a personal victory for me during the preparation for this tournament. This was the first
time India, won 2 of the 5 fights ever.
