Three keynotes by Professor Veena Sahajwalla (University of NSW), Associate
Professor Ziv Hameiri (University of NSW) and Professor Katherine Belov
(University of Sydney) revolving around the themes of sustainability and protecting
our environment.
Prof. Sahajwalla gave a talk about her research on the recycling of industrial
waste materials to reduce waste, as well as her research as a materials science
specialist.
Prof. Hameiri gave a talk about his research on Solar panels, following which I
made a solar powered car as a part of an impromptu competition, which was the
eventual winner!
This car was made based on the understanding of weight distribution, power
dissipation, and how to maximize the solar power available by adjusting the
angle of the solar panel. There was a 2-hour time limit and very few resources
available to all. I was very proud of myself.
Prof. Belov gave a talk about her research in genome mapping and the evolution
of genes in the Tasmanian devil as well as her efforts in the conservation of this
species.
