My Learnings
My journey at the International Student Science Conference was a transformative
experience, fostering not only scientific exploration but profound personal growth.
I was able to contemplate the broader implications of the work being done on a
global scale as presented by the delegates. I asked critical questions about the
environmental impact of others’ research, and aligned it with the larger picture
worldwide. This not only helped in improving my understanding of the climate crisis,
but also allowed me to step back and see the impact that research has had on our
environment. Learning about the use of Murano Glass for solar protection, and how
different sunscreens have varied protection levels and it is not only based on the
SPF written on the packaging was something that was completely new to me. I was
grateful to have been chosen as one of the few representing my school.
Research Presentation
The topic for my research presentation was the “A study of the physical and biochemical
properties of metal ion-reinforced starch-based bioplastics”. The research question was,
“To what extent does the tensile strength, and the rate of biodegradation of starch-
based bioplastics change upon reinforcement through homogeneous integration of
different concentrations of divalent metal ions (Zinc (II), Manganese (II), Magnesium
(II))?”
