Page 2 - Manali to Leh
P. 2
The cycling expedition kicked off with a warm welcome in
Manali, Himachal Pradesh, after a long bus journey from school in
Uttrakhand. Despite receiving an older bike, I embraced its unique
character and laughed off any concerns with regard to its state.
The 1st day tested my resilience against heat, rain, and traffic, but
ended with a satisfying meal of eggs and potato pancakes.
There was palpable anticipation for the journey ahead as it was a
practice run for acclimatisation to the environment and the harsh
climatic conditions ahead.
The 2nd day I slipped and fell into a gutter to my embarrassment
but got hosed down by others following huge laughs and some
ribbing.
The 3rd day included a workshop by the 8 instructors on mountain
biking fundamentals and a trek to a beautiful waterfall, while the
4th day saw us fearlessly zooming downhill and drawing inspiration
from the stunning terrain.
On Day 5, the incline began to Deepak Taal, it was exhausting but
a subsequent relaxing downhill stretch rejuvenated us. However, on
the downhill, trying to balance myself, I fell and cut my palm in
multiple places.
Throughout the expedition, each day brought sore muscles,
accomplishments, overcoming fear, and pushing through exhaustion,
solidifying the bonds between me and my friends as we goaded
each other on and fuelled the determination to succeed.
